The Story & Vibe

Join us on Friday, November 20, 2026, at the National Maritime Museum for the engaging symposium "Black Beyond Data: Working with Descendant Communities." Doors open at 10:00 AM, and the event runs from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM. This is a fantastic opportunity to dive into the evolving role of descendant communities in shaping museum practices. Together with co-researchers, artists, and museum practitioners, we’ll explore how collections related to African presence and colonial legacies can be approached with shared authority and community-led research. Expect thought-provoking discussions, reflections from descendant community co-researchers, and the premiere of a new filmed conversation featuring collector Michael Graham-Stewart. Enjoy a day filled with insightful conversations, creative practices, and a chance to rethink how museums can ethically engage with communities. Plus, refreshments and lunch will be provided! Tickets are free with a suggested donation, but be sure to book your spot as places are limited. We can't wait to see you there!
