The Story & Vibe

Join us for an intriguing lecture, "The Smell of Scotland: History, Heritage and Practice," where you'll embark on a sensory journey through Scotland's captivating scents! From the sweet fragrance of yellow gorse to the rich notes of Scotch whisky, discover how these aromas shape our memories and intertwine with Scotland's history and identity. Dr. Huang, a Senior Lecturer in Sensory History at the University of Edinburgh, will guide you through this olfactory exploration, revealing how the past doesn’t just look a certain way—it smells unique too! The event kicks off at Augustine United Church with doors opening at 5:45 PM. Before the main lecture, early career researcher Gemma McLean-Carr will present a short talk on the intersections of race, identity, and odour in Scotland’s history. Stick around for a lively Q&A session, and enjoy a free drinks reception where you can mingle with speakers and fellow attendees. Plus, all participants will receive a discount on Society books. Don’t miss this chance to engage with Scotland’s rich heritage in a whole new way!
